The 500 Festival is excited to announce that Meb Keflezighi will be running the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon this May! Keflezighi, one of the most accomplished American runners over the past 30 years, is best known for his 2014 victory at the Boston Marathon, becoming the first American male to win since 1983. He is also the only person to win the New York Marathon, Boston Marathon and an Olympic medal.
Beyond his athletic achievements, Meb is passionate about inspiring individuals of all ages and athletic abilities to achieve their personal best. With that commitment in mind, he will not start at the front of the IndyMini with the other elite athletes. Instead, Meb will serve as the official starter for Wave 1 and Wave 2, then he will start his race at the very back of the Mini-Marathon field, to ensure all participants have the opportunity to run or walk with him.
There will also be two opportunities throughout race weekend to meet Meb! He will be attending the Mini-Marathon Expo to meet and take pictures with participants on Friday, May 6th from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. Meb will also be joining in on the fun after the race by congratulating those who have achieved a new personal record at the PR Bell from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.!
